Haschalas Gemara

What a special Sunday was had in Yeshiva K’tana of Waterbury! Twenty-six boys received their very own Gemara. This event was enjoyed by parents, siblings, and grandparents who traveled to Waterbury to shepnachas from their grandsons. The 5th Grade Rebbe, Rabbi Baruch Levine, gave every boy an opportunity to shine in his own way during this performance from answering questions to giving speeches to singing solos.

First, the boys performed by answering many Yedios questions about knowledge that they learned in preparation for their Haschalas Gemara. Then, the boys treated the crowd to two heart-warming songs. The first song was introduced by a story written by Rabbi Paysach Krohn about a leaf falling off a tree. As the leaf falls, it looks like it’s having a wonderful time dancing through the air. However, when the leaf hits the ground, it dies. Similarly, we must stay connected to the Torah in order to flourish and grow. The boys sang then the song “Eitz Chaim” composed by Rabbi Shlomo Yehuda Rechnitz. The second song that the boys sang,”Leibele,” was written by Mrs. Dina Storch. This song is about a boy whose parents couldn’t afford to buy him a Gemara. Each of his parents cashed in a valuable item of their own so that their son could have a Gemara to learn from.Lastly, Rabbi Yosef Goldfinger, a parent of one of the 5th Grade students, spoke about how special of an opportunity it is to begin learning Gemara.

Yeshiva K’tana of Waterbury wishes its students much hatzlacha as they embark upon their new limud.
